Oregon visionaries Oswald West, Samuel H. Boardman, and Tom McCall changed the course of history through their commitment to preserving the Oregon coast through the rights of public access to all who visit this magnificent region of the State of Oregon.
Authors Jan and Jack McGowan share the story of Oregon’s public beach access thanks to the Oregon Beach Bill, the state’s landmark legislation which was passed and signed by Governor McCall on July 6, 1967. However, Jan and Jack’s essays take the reader back to 1874 when the Oregon State Land Board began to sell public tidelands to private owners.
A portion of this sale goes to Oregon Parks Forever to support increased environmental education, access, and healthy activities in Oregon State Parks.
